On February 20–21, 2026, the “Cardiometabolic and Rare Diseases Congress”, organized by the Azerbaijan Society of Cardiology, was successfully held at Hilton Baku. The event was accredited by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan with 14 CME (Continuing Medical Education) credits.
It should be noted that this congress was the first large-scale scientific event organized by the newly elected board of the Society, whose structure is renewed every two years. Within the framework of the congress, current scientific topics in the field of cardiometabolic and rare diseases, modern diagnostic and treatment approaches, and innovations applied in clinical practice were extensively discussed.
At the opening ceremony, speeches were delivered by Yasmin Rustamova the President of the Azerbaijan Society of Cardiology; Ramik Guliyev Head of the Health Policy Department of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Professor Malahat Sultanova, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs at Azerbaijan Medical University; and Professor Gulnaz Dadashova, Director of the Scientific Research Institute of Cardiology. The speakers emphasized the ongoing reforms in the field of cardiology in our country, the strengthening of scientific capacity, and the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration.
During the two-day congress, panel sessions and clinical case discussions were organized on arterial hypertension, hyperlipidemia, cardiorenal syndrome, diabetes mellitus, rare cardiovascular diseases, and other relevant topics. Additionally, for the first time in the history of the Society’s congresses, a “Daily Summary” session was presented at the end of each day. Within this format, the key points discussed throughout the day were summarized and presented to participants, creating added value in terms of systematizing and reinforcing scientific knowledge. Discussions conducted with the participation of local experts contributed to the improvement of practical approaches and promoted evidence-based medical decision-making.
The “Cardiometabolic and Rare Diseases Congress” holds significant importance in enhancing scientific knowledge, expanding professional exchange, and improving the quality of healthcare services in the fields of cardiology and related specialties in our country.
